Fascism At Its "Best"

So during halftime at the Buccaneers game (which very nearly gave me heart failure...but that is another story for another day), there was a "swearing in" of around 100 new military recruits from the area. Needless to say, there was much cheering and clapping and various other "patriotic" showing of support for the young men and women down on the 50-yard line.

Perhaps I am being overly cynical, but I don't think halftime at a professional football game is really an approprate place or time to be sworn into military service. My only thoughts were of what a giant piece of propagandized b.s. the whole thing was. We never saw this type of thing at football games prior to the war in Iraq, or before this neo-fascist administration took over.

I couldn't bring myself to applaud this dog-and-pony show. Not that I have anything against these kids...I'm sure for most of them, this is the only way they can see themselves getting ahead in the world (joining the military to get out of poverty, etc.). I just can't support a blatant show of fascist propaganda such as this. It made me want to throw up, especially when I thought about the fact that some of those kids could very well not survive their military service...
